Bullion – Pride in Bournemouth
Quite honoured to be asked to paint one of Wild in Art‘s Lions for the trail for Pride in Bournemouth on behalf of Edding. There were already a few artists inside painting their lions when i arrived at the showroom inside a shopping centre, The Lions Den, looked after by the wonderful Natalie.
The lions are positioned on a trail throughout the city, for people to enjoy.
Some of the first inspirations taken around Bournemouth during my short stay:
3 hours, 30 metres of rope (don’t ask), 3 heavy coats of gold lacquer later… I decided to grab as much gold aerosol to create a similar effect to the work in Kabul.
My official inspiration:
Bullion is an extension of my Kabullion project in Afghanistan, creating a rare, bejeweled treasure with qualities intrinsic to aerosol paint; availability, speed, scale, coverage and detailing – built into a portable canister. Once observed you are convinced of its reward immediately, with life-size ferocity, deep reflections and a towel ring from Wilko stuck in his nose
The lion will be auctioned off at a celebrity gala event on 18th September 2011.
