Control Arms design for Amnesty
If you follow world affairs you will be aware of Amnesty International. An organisation that is arguably as well known for it’s fund raiser – The Secret Policeman’s Ball, as with their challenging, graphical campaigns. Their HQ now resides on a backstreet junction in Shoreditch, where I used to drink at a small pub called The New Inn. I even celebrated my 30th in their basement there…
This concept was a response to a brief to design a commercial product that helps to raise awareness of the Arms Trade Treaty. I wanted to make it appear as if you were carrying a weapon under your arm, built from the (destructive) power of words. This was also following my work for the Banana Armour sticker.
The varying thickness of the type correlates with the surface detailing of the Uzi. If you squint, the Uzi is made up of different shades, suggesting a light source. I selected 75 words in all – by trawling the Amnesty website for the ones that were the most frequently used.
